Intro to Trap Shooting
The Amateur Trap Association describes trap shooting as a game of movement, action and split second timing. It requires the accuracy and skill to repeatedly aim, fire and break a 4 ¼" disc which is hurled through the air at a speed of 41 mph, simulating the flight path of a bird fleeing a hunter. This introductory course will consist of both classroom lecture and live fire. Students need only bring comfortable attire as all equipment and materials will be provided.

Intro to Skeet Shooting
The term "skeet" refers to an old Scandinavian word meaning "to shoot." It stands for a competitive target shooting sport that was invented in America in 1920 by several Massachusetts men who wanted to improve their aim before hunting season. Their system of simulating the flight pattern of live birds with the use of hand-propelled, inanimate targets began as a spirited game between hunters. Today, a modern version of that game has become an international sport in its own right for hunters and non-hunters alike. It is the fun of the game and the thrill of
marksmanship that unites all skeet shooters.

This introductory course will consist of both classroom lecture and live fire. Students need only bring comfortable attire as all equipment and materials will be provided.

  • 200 rounds of ammunition
  • A vest or shirt that covers the holstered gun
  • Eye & ear protection
  • Baseball cap
  • Brown bag lunch

Please contact Jon Green or Tara McGrath with additional questions. Visit www.IDPA.com to learn more about equipment and competing successfully in IDPA matches.

Tuition is $40.00 for GOAL members and $100.00 for non-members. Pre-registration is required as seating is limited to 12 people. Please call the office at 508-393-5333 to register with a charge or debit card.

"If you want to take a practical, high-value course, then I recommend GOAL's Introduction to IDPA. Jon Green delivered a concise, informative discussion of the basics. Then, we headed out to the range for safety briefings, skill drills, and actual scenarios. Three experienced IDPA competitors taught me and my classmates some useful techniques and tactics. I got lots of help in improving my draw. Within a few hours, I was hooked. I attended the next match at Worcester Pistol & Rifle Club, and I will be joining IDPA soon. As a GOAL member, I paid only $40 for the course, but I think it was worth hundreds more."
